[Solved] Linking cell data to another spreadsheet

Post by Bradley Pogue » Fri Jul 22, 2016 4:04 am

With my business, I have created invoices and a sales summary spreadsheet. Problem is, I wish for certain cell data to transfer from my individually saved invoice spreadsheets to my monthly sales summary. considering the invoices are saved as individual files (w/ ever changing file names), is this possible?

Linking cell data to another spreadsheet

It is not a good idea to linking (by reference) many spreadsheets to one. (all of the invoices to the summary file)

(This task seems as a database related task, but not a spreadsheet task.)

Otherwise you can create a macro, that can put some data values (without any reference) into the summary .ods file - based on the data of the individual invoice .ods files .

[Tutorial] External Links In Calc
Some of these techniques do not work reliably unless you save files in the native Open Office format: ODF Spreadsheet. If you're saving in Microsnot Excel format (File.xls), your options may be limited. Spreadsheets with lots of links may open slowly. Calc has to open every one of them (in the background) if you want the data refreshed. Read about that in the tutorial.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

I have found base to daunting a task getting forms to appear as my current invoice (too much going on, and I am new to the process of course). I am saving all files as odf, and plan to try macros. Thanks for the help.
